Rueben T Meade

 

My name is Reuben T Meade.  I am from Salem, Montserrat born on 7th March 1954. 

My early schooling was at the Wesley Primary School in Plymouth then later transferred to the Montserrat Secondary School.

My studies included:

  • Undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of the West Indies  (UWI) –   1972-75. 
  • Management Studies at UWI- Mona in 1976.
  • Graduate Studies in Agricultural Economics and Marketing Management – McGill University, Montreal, Canada -  1978-1980.
  • Short courses of study in Banking and Finance – Bradford University, UK
  • Project Preparation and Appraisal – PATU – Barbados
  • Agricultural Finance and Management – MANANGA, Swaziland.

My work experience is as follows:

  • Pupil teacher at the Salem Primary School in 1972.
  • Economics and Geography Master – Holy Childhood High School, Kingston Jamaica. 1975-76
  • Coordinator of the Work experience programme and Economics Master – Ferncourt High School, St. Anns, Jamaica. 1976-78.
  • Research Analyst – Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica.  1975-76.
  • Administrative Cadet – Chief Minister’s Office, Montserrat.  1980-82
  • Project Analyst – Caribbean Development Bank, Barbados. 1982-1988.
  • Financial Controller – Montserrat Sea Island Cotton Company. 1988-89
  • Director of Development – Government of Montserrat.  1989-1991.
  • Chief Minister and Minister for Finance and Economic Development. 1991-96.
  • Member of Parliament – Leader of the Opposition 1997-2006.
  • Director and Project Manager of L&M Construction 1997 to 2008.
  • Minister for Agriculture.2009

Awards:  Montserrat Badge of Honour and Certificate of Honour.  1990 for the organization of rehabilitation aid in the aftermath of hurricane Hugo.

President of the Montserrat Cricket Association 2002 - present

Officer in Charge of the Boys Brigade in Montserrat  1998 – 2002.

Hobbies include Cricket, Squash, Tennis, Soccer, Golf and Fishing all at competitive levels.

My work life and training has provided me with the experience representing Montserrat at the highest level with some distinction.  The international experience gained from work at the Caribbean Development Bank, the years of teaching and 15 years as a member of the Legislative Council will be brought to the fore in continued high level representation of the people of Montserrat and the sub region.
