Roselyn Cassell-Sealy has been involved in the development of business opportunities
for the farmers and business people since she returned to Montserrat after the
completion of her first degree in Economics at UWI in Barbados.
But before she returned home she took the opportunity to work with the accounting
firm of Peat Marwick for two years in Barbados where she honed her understanding
of accounting, auditing and the interpretation of management and accounting information.
When she arrived in Montserrat she went to work with DFMC and MIEL as the Accountant
and introduced a modern accounting system to DFMC. She went on to work with MSIC
as the accountant and then returned to UWI in Trinidad where she completed a
Masters in Accounting. She returned to Montserrat and to Montserrat Sea Island
Cotton Company (MSICC) but was soon offered the post of Executive Director
of the National Development Foundation Montserrat Ltd. (NDFM) and the St. Patrick’s
Co-Operative Credit Union Ltd. (SPCCU).
She worked for all three institutions for a six month period before MSICC was
down-sized.
Since 1988 she has been working with the NDF and the Credit Union and has
shepherded the institutions through two major natural disasters, hurricane Hugo
and the volcanic activity. She has held the NDF and the Credit Union together
and has guided the growth of the credit union from a EC$500,000 institution to
a twin organisation of the NDF and Credit Union with a joint loan portfolio of
a EC$24,000,000 and a membership clientel of over 4,000.
As Executive Director of the NDF and the Credit Union she has been able to assist
in the development and expansion of many businesses on Montserrat and has contributed
to the housing solutions for many residents on Montserrat.
Mrs. Cassell-Sealy has served on many boards and many committees and has been
involved in the delivery of many training activities and many community development
projects.
Mrs. Cassell-Sealy’s commitment to serve the people of Montserrat and her
understanding of the development of the people and the institutions of Montserrat
has been ably demonstrated since her return to Montserrat in 1980.
